Evelyn Smith

      Mrs. Evelyn Smith, age 79 of Barbourville, KY passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in the Barbourville ARH Hospital, Barbourville, Kentucky.  She was the daughter of the late Greene & Sarah Jane (Mills) Sizemore of Clay County born to them on January 19, 1942.

      Evelyn was an unconditional loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was a member of the Salt Gum Baptist Church with a strong belief in God. She enjoyed listening to her preacher and to gospel music and she was always quick to tell the family that the Lord would take care of her.

      Evelyn had a heart full of love, kindness, sweetness, and had a glowing, beautiful smile for everyone she met.

      She was united in marriage with Richard “Billy” Smith and to this union four children were born.

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, two brothers Floyd Mills and Elmer Mills, five sisters, Rita McIntosh, Oma Saylor, Eunice Hildebrand, Kathleen Hopkins and Phyllis Chapman, four sisters-in-law, Bertha Messer Estes, Mildred Smith, Jean Messer and Lula Smith, seven brother-in-laws Gilbert McIntosh, Finley Saylor, Jimmy Hildebrand, Leonard Smith, James Albert Smith, Charles Ferreri and Oscar Messer.

      Survivors include four beloved children, Jason Smith (Heather) of Richmond, Kentucky Michael Smith of Richmond, Kentucky, Maxine Kysar (Lyndon) of Barbourville, Kentucky, and  Gertrude Smith (Glenn) of Barbourville, Kentucky; four treasured grandchildren, Chase Alexander Smith and Chandler Smith of Richmond, Kentucky, Tiffany Grace (Kevin) of Barbourville, Kentucky, and Tony Kysar, Jr. (Briana) of Flat Lick, Kentucky, and four cherished great grandchildren, Dylan Lewis (Kayla) of Barbourville, Kentucky, Annabelle Grace Kysar, Gavin Hunter Kysar, and Grayson Wade Kysar of Flat Lick, Kentucky. Two sisters Rinda Lane (Carl) of Highland Heights, Kentucky and Rachel Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio. Four brothers Lewis Sizemore of Verona, Kentucky, Alex Sizemore of Ohio, Francis Sizemore (Donna) of Mills, Kentucky, and Allen Sizemore of Barbourville, Kentucky, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Escoe Smith and wife Thelma of Dewitt, Kentucky and Roscoe Smith and wife Ruth of London and Maxine Ferreri of Alabama as well as many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

      Her funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. In the Cobb Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kennon Roark and Rev. Josh Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Tony Kysar, Jr., Chase Alexander Smith, Chandler Smith, Dylan Lewis, Kevin Grace, and Lyndon Hubbard. She will be laid to rest in the Mills Smith Cemetery in London, Kentucky.

      The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Charles Strargel, her long time doctor and friend, and his devoted staff, Baptist Health of Corbin Hospital, and Knox County and Professional Home Health Agency staff.

      Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
