Dempsey Hobbs

          Mr. Dempsey “Poncho” Hobbs, age 68 of Scalf, Kentucky departed this life on Friday, December 11, 2020 at home. He was the son of Bentley and Sylvia (Baker) Hobbs born to them on December 13, 1951. He was united in marriage with Gladys Brown and to this union two sons were born. Dempsey was a member of John’s Branch Holiness Church and retired from the Knox County Board of Education.  He enjoyed deer hunting, four-wheeler riding, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

          He is preceded in death by his parents, Bentley and Sylvia (Baker) Hobbs, and sister Shirley Bingham.

          He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gladys (Brown) Hobbs, two sons, David Michael Hobbs and his wife Amy of Scalf, and Randy Lynn Hobbs of Scalf, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, three brothers, Don Hobbs and wife Mary Ann of Scalf, Archie Hobbs of Scalf and Jerry Hobbs and his wife Margret of Scalf, and two sisters, Betty Meade and husband David of Virginia and Doris Brown of Scalf.

          Funeral services for Mr. Dempsey “Poncho” Hobbs will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

          Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday, December 14, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
