Mrs. Ellie Mae Helton, age 83 of Louisville, Kentucky departed this life on Saturday, December 20, 2025 in the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. She was born on March 10, 1942 in Barbourville, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Charlie Payne and Rebecca (Brown) Payne.
Mrs. Helton was a member of the Radiant Life Church of God and attended Redeeming Grace Chapel in Bardstown after the death of her husband. She loved singing gospel music with her daughter Sherry and her sister Juanita. She also loved to minister the gospel to everyone she met and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Ellie also loved gardening and helping others any way she could, including Redemption Recovery.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Helton, her parents, Charlie and Rebecca Payne, a son, Terry James Myrick and a sister, Maxine Payne Myrick.
Left behind to mourn her passing, her daughters, Sherry Perry and husband Mike of Barbourville, and Melissa Hoffman and husband Bob of Tucson, Arizona, step-daughters, Kimberly Salthill and Sarah, one sister, Juanita Bailey and husband Arvil of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, grandchildren, James Ray Foley and wife Missy, Christopher Perry and wife Mary Ann, Dana Barger and Gabrielle Hoffman, great grandchildren, Nicholas Michael Perry, Sophie Olivia Perry, great grandson, Colton Barger, Miles Colton Saltkill, Makayla Saltkill, Macie Saltkill, Samantha Saltkill and Sydney Corbin Saltkill, step great grandchildren Alivia and Hunter Newberry. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Helton will be conducted in the Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Charles Myrick officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Callihan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00.
The family would like to send special thanks to her friends, Joe Heaverin and Lee Ford, neighbors who were so gracious in helping with repairs on her home, upkeep of her property or car and never would accept any payment. Also special thanks to friends, Wanda and Jack Johnson who helped take Ellie to the doctor and also kept her and Don well supplied with fresh garden vegetables every year and Earlene Quisenberry who would often check on Ellie and help in many different ways.
