Mrs. Eliza (Mills) Smith Reeder, age 89 of Hammons Fork, Woolum, Kentucky departed this life on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. She was born on March 29, 1936, in Knox County, the daughter of Jim and Dora (Messer) Mills. On May 22, 1950, she united in marriage with Lincoln Smith and to this union a son, James Taylor, was born. Later in life, on July 3, 2004, she united in marriage with Lee Reeder. Eliza was the oldest member of the Horn Branch Missionary Baptist Church. She was a foster parent for many years having cared for many children. She loved working in her flowers and her house and loved going to church.
She is preceded in death by her son, James Taylor Smith, her first husband, Lincoln Smith, her parents, Jim and Dora Mills and four siblings, Enos Mills, Nannie Mills, Dexter Mills and Jim Mills.
Left behind to mourn her passing, her husband of twenty-one years, Lee Reeder of Woolum, two grandchildren, Whitney Shepherd and husband Jimmy and Shelby Tarter and wife Emily, five great-grandchildren, Ethena Shepherd, Minerva Shepherd, Lincoln Shepherd, Callie Tarter, and Noah Tarter, Joe Lee, who she raised as her son, four siblings, Dallas Mills and wife Viven of Cranes Nest, Otis Mills and wife Irene of Ohio, Cleda Smith of Woolum and Irene Jones of Girdler. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Reeder will be conducted in the Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Shell and Rev. Jerry Vaughn officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Nan Riley Cemetery at Woolum. Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
