Mrs. Selma Jean Barnes, age 64, of Girdler, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Bluegrass Care in Hazard, Kentucky. She was the wife of the Johnny Barnes and the daughter of the late William Oscar Newman and Eva Juanita (Branum) Newman, born to them on April 17, 1954 in Barbourville, Kentucky. Selma was a member of the New Bethel Church and enjoyed scrapbooking, shopping, trips to Gatlinburg, taking care of people and spending time with family.
Selma was preceded in death by her parents William and Juanita Newman, and brothers-in-law Eugene Barnes, Russel Barnes, Layman Barnes and Oakley Barnes.
Left behind to mourn her passing her loving husband Johnny Barnes, daughter Ginger Hensley and husband Michael Spradlin of Girdler, Kentucky, grandsons Jonathan Hensley and wife Tabitha of Girdler, Kentucky, Dereck Hensley and wife Kayla of Cannon, Kentucky, brothers Edmond Newman of Girdler, Kentucky, Dennis Ray Newman of Poplar Creek, Kentucky, sister Linda Barnes of Girdler, Kentucky, sister-in-law Ruth Holland of Barbourville, Kentucky, brothers-in-law Charlie Barnes of Girdler, Kentucky, and Kenneth Barnes of Girdler, Kentucky.. She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Selma Jean Barnes will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at New Bethel Church in Barbourville, Kentucky, with Reverend Lonnie Collett and Reverend Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodin Cemetery. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at New Bethel Church on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
