Nora Baker Obituary

Mrs. Nora Lee Baker, age 70, of Flat Lick, Kentucky, formerly of Stinking Creek and Turkey Creek, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.  She was born on March 13, 1949 to Ed Messer and Pearlie Teague Messer.  In 1965, Nora was united in marriage to Dan Baker of Macroe Branch and to the union four children were born. 

Nora was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.   She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Turkey Creek Baptist Church, and she enjoyed attending various churches in the county and attending homecoming services.  Nora enjoyed coloring, completing word puzzles, talking on the phone to her beloved sister Martha Merida every day, gospel music, singing, traveling and reading her bible.  She was an amazing Woman, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.  Those who knew Nora loved her.  She touched the lives of so many and is dear to so many in her community.  Despite Nora’s health struggles, she always brightened others days and fought so hard for her family.  Nora’s strength and courage inspired her family and many others close to her.  Nora’s caregivers were her daughters Rebecca Ann Baker whom she lived with, Mary Elizabeth Dionisio, and special granddaughter whom she raised and claimed as her own Jessica Lynn Baker.

She is preceeded in death by her husband Dan Baker, parents Ed and Pearlie Teague Messer, two brothers Jesse Blanton and Otto Messer and one sister Stella Sweat.

Left behind to mourn her passing are her children Rebecca Anna Baker of Flat Lick, Kentucky, Mary Elizabeth Dionisio and husband Pablo of Barbourville, Kentucky, Barbara Ann Burnett of Stinking Creek, Kentucky, Martha Irene Allen and husband William of Stinking Creek, Kentucky and special granddaughter whom she raised as her own Jessica Lynn Baker of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, grandchildren Madison Allen who was her caregiver, Kamdin Allen, Jonathan Allen, Aiden Allen, twins Laurel and Laney Allen, Brittany Burnett, Trace Jordan, and US Marine Daniel Collins and wife Amber, great grandchildren Melanie Cox, Carly Burnett, Myrtle Brown and Beckham Lawson arriving in July 2019.  Nora also leaves behind her dear sister Martha Merida of Tucson, Arizona and two special nephews James Merida and wife Vivian and Steven Merida and wife Joanna of Tucson, Arizona, and her brothers Reverend Bill Messer and wife Sharon of South Carolina, Harold Blanton and wife Ruby of Somerset, Kentucky and Oscar Blanton and wife Liz of Arizona.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Valerie Warren from R. Tech whom Nora loved dearly and to all the nurses at the DCI Clinic and Dr. Raju Vora.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Nora Lee Baker will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend A.Y. Mills officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Dozier Cemetery at Bimble, Kentucky.  Pallbearers will be Kamdin Allen, Joshua Lawson, Curtis Lawson, James Merida and Pablo Dionisio.  Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements. 

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
