George L Smith

Mr. George L. Smith, age 83, of Barbourville, Kentucky departed this life on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Corbin Health and Rehabilitation in Corbin, Kentucky.  He was the son of Cloyd and Mary (Mills) Smith, born to them on February 27, 1935 in Clay County, Kentucky.  He was the husband of the late Bertha Wilma (Hibbard) Smith and to this union were born one son and three daughters.  He then married the late Nettie (Hammons) Smith.  George was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church, was a farmer and loved to sing.

He was preceded in death by parents Cloyd and Mary Smith, first wife Bertha Wilma Smith, second wife Nettie Smith, daughter Donna Gilbert, brothers Dave Smith, R. B. Smith, Ford Smith and Arthur Smith, sisters Marie Jordan and Lena Mae Foster.

Left behind to mourn his passing are son Danny Smith and wife Julie of Livingston, Montana, daughters Bernice Gilbert and husband Larry of West Harrison, Indiana, Brenda Widener and husband Henry of Owenton, Kentucky, seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, brother Johnny Smith and wife Redina of Hamilton, Ohio, sisters-in-law Jean Smith and Elaine Smith, brother-in-law Gene Foster, cousin Imogene Smith, special friend Lucy Deaton and all of his singing buddies.  He is also survived by many relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Mr. George L. Smith will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Mickey Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Callebs Creek Cemetery in Hinkle, Kentucky.  Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
