On February 14, 2019, Mr. Gene S. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mabel Carty, his loving wife Lillie, brothers and sisters Mildred Smith, Bill Carty, Ken Carty and Wilma Roark.

Gene leaves behind his loving daughter and caregiver Donna Carty Barger and husband Charlie of Girdler, granddaughter Amber Lily Barnett, whom he lovingly called ‘Toot’ and husband Zac of Huntsville, Ohio, beloved sister Page Chrisman of Hallsville, Texas, as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Gene was truly part of the Greatest Generation and believed strongly in God, Country and Family.  As a young man, Gene was in CCC’s at Pine Mountain.  Later he proudly served in the Army 33rd Infantry Division, in the Pacific Campaign of WWII.  He earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, w/2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Theater Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Purple Heart.

Upon his return from the war, Gene worked as a farmer, car industry, construction worker, and a craftsman builder.  He retired from Southeast Farm and Tractor Supply in London, Kentucky.  Gene was a member of the Masonic Mountain Lodge #187 of Barbourville, Kentucky.

Anyone who knew Gene, knew how much he loved his family, friends and church.  He was a master storyteller and leaves many good tales to pass along for generations to come.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend David Barnard and Pastor Jimmy Siler officiating.  Burial will follow in the Carty Family Cemetery in Girdler, Kentucky.  Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
