Mr. Robert Lee Smith, Sr. age 86 of Cannon, KY, departed this life on Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, Ohio. He was the husband of Roberta (Merida) Smith and the son of Enos and Laura (Messer) Smith born to them on April 15, 1930 in Yancy, KY. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army. He and his wife ran a grocery store for over thirty years near their home in Cannon. 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Enos and Laura Smith, two brothers, Ed Smith and Herbert Smith, one sister, Lena Mae Smith Baker, infant siblings, Clarence Andrew Smith, Freddy Smith, Billy Ray Smith, Marie Smith, his father and mother in law, Bradley and Alice Carnes Merida, one son, Robert Lee Smith, Jr. a grandson, Brandon Michael Smith and Granddaughter, Sangmi Lee Smith.
Survivors include, his wife of sixty three years, Roberta Merida Smith of Cannon, Son, Larry Smith of Franklin, Ohio, daughters Gayle Sheldon and husband Fred of Ohio, and Kathy Hall and husband Dale, son Darryl Smith and wife Freda of Trace Branch, daughter in law, Brenda Overbey Smith of Corbin, one sister, Martha Gray and husband Lonnie of Boone Height, twenty two grandchildren, sixty three great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren, five sisters in law, Sally Smith, Louise Smith, Julie McVey, Della Billingsly and Melvina Merida. He also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. 
Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee Smith, Sr. will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Justin Morris officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, family & friends. He will be laid to rest in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements. 

Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
